THE OTAGO FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
TO THE EDITOR.
Sib, —I. understand that a certain referee was appointed to control the First Grade match, Mosgiel v. Maori Hill, last Saturday, and that bn Satxjfday morning the Mosgiel team refused to take the field if this referee took the match. Mr W. P. Smith (a member of the Appointments Board) took the match, thereby, in my opinion, showing a very weak-kneed attitude. As one of the two members responsible for the appointment of the referee in the first place, Mr Slhith should have been the first to insist on the retention of him. Why should the Mosgiel Club be able to dictate to the 0.A.F.? If a team at the bottom of the ladder had acted in the same way, what would the O.F.A. have done?" I looked in vain for a reference to this matter in the report of last night’s meeting of the 0.F.A., and it looks as though some members of the O.F.A. are at the beck and call of the Mosgiel Club. I expect, if the attitude of the Mosgiel Club is adopted by other clubs, that the Referees’ Club will have to forward a list of referees to clubs for their appi'oval. If more members of the O.F.A. were to adopt Mr L. Scott’s views on the control of Soccer here it would be for the benefit of the game.—l am, etc., Centre-half.
