THE DAVIS CUP AUSTRALIANS DEFEATED. ~v PARIS, June 19. Nunoi defeated M'Grath 6—4, 6—4, 6—B, 7—5. Satoli defeated Crawford 3—6, 6—3, 6—l, I—G, 6—2. ' With nothing hanging on the result M‘Grath against Nunoi threw caution to the winds and went for shots, joyously providing the crowd with a scintillating exhibition of ground strokes, but he found tire net too frequently in the early stages. Nunoi, who was more accurate, scored winners with backhand shots which often left M'Grath standing. He always hit just a little cleaner and harder than the Australian. Crawford, who is always lees dependable in exhibition games than in competitions, was not keyed up. He appeared listless, lacking concentration. He would have preferred Turnbull to replace him, but was advised that he had better keep faith with the public. Satoh, on the contrary, was eager to restore the team's reputation. He never sacrifled a point and scored marvellous winners. Crawford also preferred winners to rallies. He made many fine but many bad shots in the match, which lasted;only 75 minutes.
