DUNEDIN CENTRE EXECUTIVE

A meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Bowling Centre was held last night. The president (Mr E. Tamblyn) presided. The sub-committee set up to report on the entertainment of visiting members of the council of the New Zealand Bowling Association presented a report outlining a series of activities which it was considered would be suitable. These included a theatrical entertainment, a motor trip, and a social by' the Leith Bowling Club.*—Mr G. , Nelson said b® thought the ebb-committee should give an approximate idea of the cost to the centre. —The chairman said the amount would probably/ be in the vicinity of £ls or £2o.—The report was approved. _ A letter was received from the Waikouaiti Bowling Club asking for full information as to the steps which should be taken by the club to enter the Dunedin Centre’s competition for the comiim season.—The secretary reported that he had' given the desired information—l he secretary’s action was approved. , A second letter was received from the chib stating that it had been decidedAo enter the centre’s competition. The club desired that the draw should be arranged so that Waikouaiti would play one match in Dunedin for every_ three played on the Waikouaiti green, with, 12 matches as a minimum. The following remits for the annual meeting of,, the New Zealand Bowling Association were forwarded by Centres:— From the South Canterbury Centre—“'That, as the amended rule relating to the time limit and the throwing of the inch leaves the way open to abuse, this centre asks that the previous rule on this question be given consideration. Some discussion took place regarding the interpretation of the amended rule and the rule which it replaced—Mr Rowley said the old rule was amended tor the purpose of saving time in games. Mr Nelson said nobody had the power to “'ride through” the laws of the game, and he doubted whether it was legal to make by-laws or sub-laws that were not in accordance with the laws of the game. —After some discussion, it was decided to take no official action in the matter. The Auckland Centre forwarded the following remit: —“This centre respectfully invites the council to consider the advisability of holding the anm 1 meeting at least a fortnight earlier than heretofore, as this would entail no disadvantages, would give the incoming executive still more time to arrange details for the annual tournament, and would allow time to, cable any last-minute in-

formation or instructions to our representatives on the International Bowling Board, if necessary.” A remit from the Wellington Centre was as follows:-—" That this centre recommends that the Council of the New Zealand Bowling Association take into consideration the question of the minimum size of bowls.” No discussion took place regarding the last two remits. . Mr J. Allan said this would be the last meeting of the centre at which he would be present, and he would like to take the opportunity of congratulating the president on the manner in which he had carried out his duties. He thought the centre’s business had never been more efficiently supervised than during Mr Tamblyn’s term of office. Tlhe speaker referred to the pleasure which he had obtained from his membership of the centre during the past seven years, and said he would be pleased at any time to render any assistance in his power to the Centre Executive. ' The president briefly acknowledged Mr, Allan’s remarks, and expressed the regret of the executive at losing his services. • ' , Mr H. J. Duncan also said he would be retiring at' the end of this year, and spoke in appreciative terms of the work of the president and executive officials.,, A motion was passed expressing appreciation of the retiring members’ services. : v
