PATROLMAN'S DEATH
SEQUEL TO NATIVE AMBUSH SYDNEY, June 19. (Received June 19, at 10.50 p.m.) The death is announced of Patrolman lan Mack, the victim of the native ambush in New Guinea. Patrolman Mack and a party of New Guinea police, who were pursuing escaped prisoners, were attacked by other natives. The latter had already killed the escapees, and thought that the police were a punitive expedition to avenge this crime. They were routed and given a sharp lesson, although, during the scrimmage, four arrows struck Patrolman Mack, and a police boy was hit.
