THE MAYOR'S APPEAL
TO THE EDITOR
Sir,—l hold no special brief for Mr Cox, but there has been so much opposition to him through the press since he assumed his mayoral duties last month that I feel constrained to suggest that it would be much better if, instead of pulling him and his schemes to pieces, his political opponents were to give him a chance to show what can be done to assist the far too many needy workers at present either on relief work or, worse still, facing starvation through not working at all. I note that the Mayor has convened a meeting for 4 p.m. on Monday at the Town Hall, and I would respectfully suggest that all who possibly can should roll up to assist his Worship. It will pay us to help him. otherwise an increase in the rates will mean possibly an allround increase in rents also. I thank you. ■—l am, etc., G. S. THOMPSON. Opoho, June 18.
