ORKNEY AND SHETLAND CHOIR

MONTHLY CONCERT. That the Orkney and Shetland Choir's popularity is steadily increasing was proved by the large crowd that filled the R.S.A. rooms on Saturday evening, when the choir gave its best concert to date. The president, in his opening remarks, welcomed members of the Orkney and Shetland Society who were present. He made special reference to Mr W. Stevenson who, he said, had been the founder of the choir. The choir, under the baton of Miss Ruby Baxter, opened the concert with " Hardy Norsemen" and "Aloha Oe" (soloist, Miss J. M'Millan). Mr Roland Dunbar was then heard in two tenor solos. Then followed a trio by the Misses Laing, Binghan, and Harvey, and Miss Henaghan then contributed two humorous recitations, while a duet was contributed by Messrs Frank Watt and Roland Dunbar. Miss Gourlay was next with a violin solo, and Miss Ruby Price was heard in two soprano solos. Next came a duet by Misses Peggy Harvey and Margaret Laing, and this was followed by an instrumental trio by Misses Gourlay and Stuarts. Mr Frank Watt was heard in two numbers, and, by special request, he gave his popular " Sergeant-major on Parade." Mrs Laurenson contributed two recitations, and Miss Tui ' Salt gave two soprano solos. Mr W. LeGal was then heard with his popular violin solos. The choir's closing item was "John Peel" (soloist, Mr Dave Burnett). The president thanked the performers for their excellent items, and said he was sure that everyone would agree with him that the concert was the best yet presented. He made mention of Mr Frank Watt's approaching departure, and thanked hini for the assistance he had rendered the choir from time to time. The audience snowed its appreciation by hearty applause. Supper was then served, after which dancing commenced. Dance music was supplied by Messrs Joyce and LeGal. The accompanists for the evening were Miss Jean M'Millan and Miss Ruby Baxter. Mr Fred Andrews supplied the accompaniments for the choir.
