G. Holmes won races both, at Ashburton and Greymouth, is a very promising three-year-old by Man o' War. He will/improve a lot yet and everything points to' the probability of his developing into a good stayer. Scenes probably without -parellel in the history of trotting in Australia followed the Almont Wilkes appeal case in Melbourne on. June 8. After the appeals of G. N. Einsiedel and J. J. Chisholm against the 12 months' disqualification imposed on them and the bay stallion Almont Wilkes had been dismissed by,; the Appeal'Board of .the Victorian Trotting and Racing Association, there was a regular Donny brook, in the board room'offices. As a result, F. W. Einsiedel, father of G. N (owner of Almont Wilkes)., was warned off for' life. The., trouble with regard to Almont Wilkes arose put o,f his running at Ascot oh. May 15. .He won the Essendon Handicap by a half yard, going 2rnin 16 2-3 sec for the 12 furlongs. . An hour later he was harnessed up again for the Flying Handicap, run over a mile, and was sent out favourite. This time he went very badly. After dwelling on the mark and.going wide at the home turn,, he finished third' a good way behind Diana Boy and Princess Myrtle, both of whim he had beaten in the Essendon Handicap; '.At the. inquiry into his running he was disqualified for 12 months, and his owner, G. N. Einseidel, and his driver, J. J. Chisholm, were also disqualified for 12 months. It was against these disqualifications that the appeal was lodged. After a very long sitting, in which a number ,of witnesses for the defence were' heard, the board*announced that it had decided to uphold the disqualifications, to dismiss the appeal, .and to forfeit the £lO. appeal fee lodged by Einsiedel and' Chisholm. - Immediately, the decision of the board, was announced it is-alleged-that F. W. Einsiedel, father of- the owner of Almont ' Wilkes., made a .dash, at Alf Gray,. acting, chairman of stewards,- and made some disparaging' remarks. - The-glass of. the door .leading into the board:, room was shattered, and the passage "outside was strewn with fragments of blue glass which is alleged to have matched the'language which; followed. After some little' time. Einsiedel and his supporters left the board room, and the. board, after a-short sitting, decided to warn F. W. Einsiedel off Victorian Trotting and Racing Association courses for life. As the Victorian Trotting and Racing Association, which controls Ascot, is registered with the Victorian Racing Club, and Victorian Trotting and Racing. Association,' disqualifications are recognised bv the Victorian Racing Club, bo itmeans that F. W. Einsiedel will not,be able to go v on anycourse, either galloping or . trotting, _in the Commonwealth. After this decision of the stewards had been conveyed to the Einsiedels there were some further challenges. Captain G. J. C. Dyett rang up for. the police patrol. It did not take very long to arrive, but. the trouble was then over. On the arrival of the police the -members of the Appeal. Board of the Victorian' Trotting and. Racing Association left the board room,, got into their waiting cars, and drove away. ]
