ALEXANDRA NOTES (From Ouk Own Correspondent.) ALEXANDRA, June 16. LICENSING COMMITTEE. The annual meeting of the Central Otago Licensing Committee was held in Alexandra on Thursday. Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M., presided, assisted by Messrs E. Morgan (St. Bathans), C. E. Murphy (Alexandra), L. Faigan (Miller’s Flat), and William Jelly (Cromwell). Commenting on the general conduct of the hotels in the district, the chairman said the police report of the hotels was satisfactory. There were, however, several cases of after-hours trading. The following publicans’ licenses were granted:—J. Noonan, Bridge Hotel, Miller’s Flat; Ellen Niall, Hartley Arms Hotel, Clyde; Alexander Henderson, Commercial Hotel, Clyde; and G. B. Gollop, Rae’s Junction Hotel. A. D. Walmsley, Hartley Arms, Clyde, also applied for a license, but on the application of Ellen Niall b e ing granted, he withdrew his application. The following accommodation licenses were granted;—J. J. Conaghan, Lake Wakatipu Hotel, Kingston; J. A. Allen, Railway Hotel, Otureliua. The following publicans’ licenses were renewed: —D. Smith (Strath Taieri Hotel, Middlemarch) the chairman stated that stricter supervision was necessary, as convictions had been entered against men for being found on the premises. Regarding the application of D. H. Jones (Hotel, Beaumont), the police report disclosed that 10 convictions for after-hours trading had been entered, and there was a suspicion of further after-hours trading. SKI-ING. With the advent of hard frosts the snow on the Old Man Range is well frozen, and makes an ideal ski-ing ground. Several parties have made the trip on recent week-ends, and all report having had thrilling sport. SHOOTING ACCIDENT. While quail shooting yesterday Mr J. D. Provan had the misfortune to fall from a tree he-was using as a vantage point, with the result* that he fractured three ribs and lacerated the muscles of his right side.
