MORTGAGE VALUES
DISCUSSED BY FARMERS t DRASTIC DOWNWARD REVISION URGED. (Per United Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, June 16, That a drastic downward revision of mortgage values should be made immediately was the text of a resolution adopted by 100 farmers at a public meeting today. Messrs C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., S. G. Smith, M.P., and W. J. Poison, M.P., attended. Several schemes for the revaluation and adjustment of mortgages were read, including one by Mr Wilkinson and one planned by a business man to meet both the borrower ahd the lender. It was decided to urge the Government to appoint a special committee to consider them and similar plans, and a deputation was appointed to wait on the Acting Prime Minister (Mr J. G. Coatee) at Hawera.
Justice had to be done the mortgagee, said Mr Poison, during an address. He could not forget that responsibility. Determined as he was to help his fellow farmers, he would not be a party to robbing fellow citizens of their just share at the instance of any other class. The tone of the meeting was that just and equitable arrangements to both parties were desirable.
