ALLEGED SLANDER

SALE OF CHEMICAL FORMULA FURTHER EVIDENCE HEARD. (Pee United Pres* Association.) WELLINGTON, June 16. The claim for £2500 damages in which Reginald Charles Boddie, sales organiser, of Wellington, alleges slander against James Dickson Sievwright, retired, also of Wellington, was continued in the Supreme Court to-day before Mr Justice Ostler. The plaintiff complains of statements alleged to have been made falsely and maliciously by the defendant to one H. J. Lockyer affecting the plaintiff’s credit and reputation in connection with the business of a syndicate for the manufacture of a chemical preparation in which the parties were associated. Further evidence in rebuttal was given by the plaintiff. He said that the formula being manufactured by the Nados Company in Christchurch was different from the one he gave to the Wellington syndicate. He alleged that after he met the defendant and told him something about the formula the defendant said: “ Shroud it in mystery, my boy. Keep it under your hat. Don’t say anything about the formula. If you let me in for a halfshare for £SO I will put it into the company for £4OOO. There are lota of fools in Wellington who will put- money into it because I am in it.” Witness said he told Sievwright that he had already disposed of a sixth share of the business.
