SUGAR INDUSTRY
TREMENDOUS GROWTH IN INDIA IMPORTS HALVED IN TWO YEARS {United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) CALCUTTA, June 15. (Received June 15, at 8.45 p.m.) The tremendous growth of the sugar industry is indicated in figures which have been issued. They show that imports of sugar into India have been halved during, the past two years. Import duty has doubled and imports of sugar machinery have increased' fivefold in 12 months.
The growth of the factory industry, which has been officially encouraged, has been a great boon to the small grower of sugar cane.
