PROSPECTORS’ GOOD FORTUNE

STRIKE AT TUAPEKA MOUTH INDICATIONS OF OLD RIVER BED (From Ooe Own Correspondent.) LAWRENCE, June 14. Messrs J. Williamson, M. MTver, and R, Walker, after prospecting in the Lammerlaw Mountains and near Waipori for some months itithout finding gold in payable quantities, recently commenced operations at Tuapeka Mouth, where they are reported to have had the good fortune to find excellent prospects. The returns from the first few feet of wash have been very encouraging, and the deeper wash is expected to be considerably more profitable. Miners have expressed the opinion that an old river bed has been found a continuation of the lead from the Tuapeka Mouth Gold Mining Company’s claim, which has proved very rich during the past few months. Mr Walker has applied for an alluvial claim of five acres, Mr C. Lucas, on whose property the strike has been made, has applied for an area of 32 acres under a prospecting license, and Messrs MTver and Williamson have made application for a special alluvial claim of 12 acres. Application has also been made for a tail-race. The applications have been set down for hearing at Lawrence on July

It is reported that Mr R. Skinner, jnn., of Tuapeka Mouth, who has been seeking for gold at Waipori and at Tuapeka Mouth, has also found good prospects.
