A preliminary meeting in connection with the proposal to hold a monster Queen Carnival for the purpose of raising money for the relief of distress was held in the Town Hall yesterday afternoon. The Mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cox) _ presided at the outset, but after explaining the objects of the meeting he handed oyer the control of the proceedings to the Deputy Mayor (Cr J* J* Marlow). A committee, consisting of Messrs J. J. Marlow, Ben Ellis, and G. A. Wycherley, was appointed to draw up a plan of com'paign for submission to the next meeting, at which an executive and other committees will be elected.
