THE WAIKOUAITI LAGOON

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I notice in this morning’s Daily Times that a petition, signed by a number of people living near the Waikouarti Lagoon, was presented to the Domain Board, requesting it to keep the water in the lagoon to “ blue clay ” level. I was unaware of such a petition, and trust the board will exercise its better judgment. It is only since the water in the lagoon has been bottled up that we have bad all the plagues of Egypt—midges, flies, rats, mice, weasels, and other vermin—and a horrible stench, which affects one’s appetite, especially in the mornings and evenings. When I took up my residence in Waikouaiti, over 20 years ago, _ the lagoon was one of the great attractions, with its wide expanse of water, its boating and fishing, and ducks and swans sailing majestically along. To-day, it is a sorry sight'.— I am, etc., On the Banks of the Lagoon. June 7.
