TARIFF RECIPROCITY THE PRESIDENT’S PLANS (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) WASHINGTON. June 9. President Roosevelt is preparing a statement on his policy regarding tariff reciprocity to clarify the situation resulting from his decision not to send a tariff resolution to Congress. His intention now is to pursue the normal course in negotiations, and to submit treaties later for Congressional approval. The statement is expected to set forth the President’s -hopes to enter into reciprocal agreements with Canada and other nations for a general lowering of tariff walls. President Roosevelt intends to go ahead with his programme, and in London a general tariff agreement will bo sought. SITTING OF CONGRESS. WASHINGON, June 11. (Received June 11, at 7.30 p.m.} Despite determined pressure from White House that Congress should finish up its legislative programme and adjourn, according to schedule, to-night in line, with President Roosevelt’s known desire to deal with the war debt crisis and the World Economic Conference without socalled legislative interference, strong opposition from blocs who are opposing certain features of the Industrial Recovery Bill and the Limitations in War Veterans’ Expenditure Bill prevented the passage of these two important measures in the President’s programme and carried the special session of the Legislature into next week. FATAL HEAT WAVE. NEW YORK, June 9. (Received June 11, at 7.30 p.m.) An unseasonable heat wave in the eastern and southern sections of the United States to-day resulted in about 100 deaths. The temperature at New York was 96 degrees. The Philadelphia schools were closed on account of the heat.
