THE COUNTY COMPETITION YORKSHIRE IN LEADING POSITION, LONDON, June 9. In the county matches, Yorkshire, which is easily leading in the championship, failed for the first time to secure the maximum number of points for a win, when it had to be content with a first innings victory against Warwick. Walters (Worcester) is the first to reach 1000 runs for the season. WEST INDIES v. SOMERSET. West Indies, with six wickets down for 482, declared their first innings closed. Somerset, in their second innings, lost nine wickets for '323. The match was drawn. [Somerset in their first innings scored 272.] M.C.C. v. KENT. Marylebone: First innings, 406 (Jeacocke 94, Robins 106) ; second, eight for 187 declared (Peacocke 87). Kent: First innings, 253 (Ames 77); second 254 (Ames 115, Bowes six for CO). Marylebone won by 86 runs. HAMPSHIRE v. ESSEX. Hampshire: First innings, 337 (Arnold 75); second, 211 (O’Connor four for 32). Essex: First innings, 274 (Eastman 93, Boyes six for 91); second, six for 277 (O’Connor 115). Essex won by four wickets. YORKSHIRE v. WARWICK. Yorkshire: First innings, six for 591 (Sutcliffe 205, Barber 124, Verity not out 78, Ley land 76). Warwick: First innings, 319 (Kilner not out 197). Warwick followed on and lost four wickets for 127.
