SITUATION IN CHINA JAPANESE WITHDRAWING (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) PEKING, June 9. ' (Received June 9, at 5.5 p.m.) While it will probably take some time to liquidate the military situation a genuine effort to carry the Tangku arpistice into effect appears to be under way. A noticeable instance of improved feeling was the arrival at Peking of a Japanese aeroplane carrying an officer detail"*] by the Japanese Army to offer condolences over the Chinese loss of life in the recent hostilities. Meanwhile foreign despatches report that the Japanese troops have begun withdrawing northward from Chinwangtao. On the Chinese side, rapid progress is reported in the work of winding up wartime organisations and transferring the troops back to the provinces.
