THE SOUTHPORT TOURNAMENT COURSE RECORD BROKEN. LONDON, May 10. i In the Southport 1500 guineas professional tournament, R Whitcombe and Lacey (68) are leading the field. Prominent players include Rimmei (09), Hodson (70), Aliss and Havers (71), Seymour, Perry, and Kenyon (72), Jolly, Green, Cotton, and Ray (73), Eastbrook, Padghani, and C. Whitconibe (74), Mitchell, E. Whitcombe, and Holland (76). Whitcombe and Lacey broke the course record of 70 made by Cotton. Whitcombe took only one putt at four holes, where he secured threes. Lacey drove tremendously and putted dazzlingly. Out of 20 Ryder Cup nominees 13 obtained 74 or under.
