ROXBURGH NEWS
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ROXBURGH, May 8. THE WEATHER. During the past week cold and unsettled weather was experienced, the glass falling slowly each day, dropping to 29.30 in. Sunday morning was fine and mild, but during the afternoon rain set in, and; by 9 o'clock on Monday morning 168 points had fallen. It is many years since this amount of rain has fallen at one time, and the ground is thoroughly saturated. The glass is rising, but it is still raining. The hills are well covered with snow. GOLF. The local Golf Club held a Bogey Match on Saturday. The afternoon was fine. The following are the cards handed in:— Men.—B, Prisk, 3 down; F. J. Laloli, 4 down; F. W. Dingwall, 4 down; J. Uren, 4 down; A. Alexander, 5 down; N. Sandes, 6 down; G. Jeffery, 6 down; J. M'Lennan, 7. down; J. Logan, 7 down; J. Jeffery, 8 down. Ladies.—Mrs Uren, 7 down; Mrs Laloli, 8 down; Mrs George, 10 down; Mrs Sandes, 10 down; Miss Uren, 10 down; Mrs Wilson, 11 down; Mrs Elder, 12 down; Mrs M'Donald, 15 down; Mrs Vernon, 18 down. FOOTBALL. The first round of the flag matches opened on Saturday, Ettrick defeating Roxburgh at Roxburgh by 14 points to 3, and Coal Creek drawing with Miller's Flat at Miller's Flat—nine points each. HOCKEY. Roxburgh E and Coal Creek played the first match of the season on Saturday, the game ending in a draw with one goal 'each.
