ALEXANDRA NOTES

FAREWELL TO TEACHER. On Thursday afternoon the children of ■Fruitlands School held an afternoon tea party to bid farewell to their teacher, Miss E. M. Routledge, who has been transferred to Hokitika. Master Francis M'Cambridge acted as chairman and, on behalf of the children, presented Miss Routledge with a fountain pen, pencil, and cut glass scent bottle. The children provided an excellent programme of songs and recitations. Miss Routledge, in acknowledging the gift, expressed her regret at leaving the district after spending three and •■ a-half happy years with them. Afternoon tea was provided by the mothers. On Thursday night the residents of Fruitlands tendered Miss Routledge a farewell dance. There were 100 present representing the Earnscleugh, Galloway and Alexandra districts. The music was supplied by Mrs R. D. Reid and Mr J. Galvin. Mr J. Dougherty carried out the duties of M.C. in a capable manner. Items were given by Mrs J. Noble and Mr R. Cavanagh. During the supper interval the chairman of the committee (Mr W. Moorhead) presented Miss Routledge with a travelling rug and expressed his regret that the school should be losing so capable a teacher. Mr J. Dougherty, Mr J. M'Kissock and Mr J. Muir also spoke and complimented Miss Routledge on the efficient manner in which she had carried out her duties as teacher. Supper was provided by the ladies. One of the most successful dances held in Fruitlands was brought to a close in the small hours of the morning.
