THE LOUISA ROBERTS HOSPITAL

IV THE EDITOR Sin,—Will you kindly grant me space to correct a misapprehension which exists in regard to the report of the meeting of the Otago Hospital Board in connection with the Louisa Roberts Hospital at" Middlemarch. Your report states that " the Director-general of Health wrote stating that from a recent copy of the minutes of the Middlemarch Hospital Committee forwarded by the board it had

been noted that the cook-general had been paid off—that no patients had been admitted since December 15 last." In fairness to the'local committee, 1 feel it is necessary for me to point out that the question of the dismissal of the cook-general has never been discussed by that committee and that the officer is still carrying out her duties at the hospital. Further, I would like to _ state, four patients have been treated in the hospital since December 15. There are two at present, and more prospective maternity cases have been booked to the end of July. Owing to the Directorgeneral's recommendation with reference to the closing of the • hospital, considerable uneasiness has been created in the minds of intending patients. I wish to assure them that the local committee will do all that is possible to maintain an efficient service at the hospital.—l am, etc., F. M. Howell, Chairman of local committee.
