DAVIS CUP CONTEST URUGUAY ELIMINATED. MONTEVIDEO, April 2. (Received April 3, at 8.30 p.m.) Chile eliminated Uruguay from the South American zone in the Davis Cup lawn tennis contest by three victories to none. The Chileans, Schomherr and Deik, defeated Stanham and Da Silva on Sunday by 6—4, B—6, 6—4, after winning the first two singles on .Saturday. Chile will meet Argentina at Buenos Aires in the South American zone final. WIMBLEDON DRESS. A BAN ON SHORTS. LONDON, March 22. It is to be hoped that the Australian lawn tennis players Crawford and M'Grath have not discarded tennis trousers in favour of shorts,,, for the Wimbledon authorities already have intimated that they will frown on eccentricities in men’s dress. The critics declare that the confidence Austin says he felt against Feret, after he had changed from trousers to shorts, in the hot, enclosed, covered court in Paris, must have been produced by other means than mere sartorial noveltv.
