UNIVERSITY BOAT RACE
CAMBRIDGE BEATS OXFORD AN ENORMOUS ATTENDANCE. LONDON, April 1. (Received April 2, at C. 20 p.m.) Cambridge beat Oxford by two lengths and a-quarter. Time, 20min 57sec. ■Cambridge won the toss, enabling them to row the shorter course, which was a large factor in their victory. The crews were moderate ( and the time slow, despite the generally favourable conditions. Oxford led by half a length for the first mile, but Cambridge had the advantage at the bend, and forged ahead to win easily, though Oxford rowed their best race for 10 years. Cambridge's record is now 10 successive wins. It is estimated that the attendance approached 1,000,000. The river banks were crowded over the four-mile course.
