Waitaki will thus retain the shield for 1933. Following are the detailed scores: —

The officer commanding the Southern Command was pleased to note that the standard of shooting had been fully maintained and he congratulated the first three teams on their performances.

THE RAINFALL' The week-end was showery in Oamaru, the weather being unsettled for the holidays until yesterday, which held fine except for a light shower in the afternoon. Up to 9 a.m. on Saturday the rainfall registered by Mr W. Forrester in Oamaru totalled 45 points, and up to the same hour on Sunday l 73 points. BOWLING A progressive pairs tournament was held yesterday at the Phcenix green, 28 players participating. HOCKEY DANCE There were about 50 couples at the weekly hockey dance in the Ribble Street Hall on Saturday night. Excellent music was supplied by Rae’a orchestra, and a very happy time was spent. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Jardine and Mr M’Leod, and the lucky spot dance by Mr and Mrs Watson. PARACHUTE DESCENTS The weather conditions were very unfavourable for the parachute descents by “Scotty” Fraser and the attendance was disappointing to the promoters, but although it was generally considered the demonstration would be postponed, the intrepid parachutist at the last moment decided not to disappoint the spectators, and made two parachute, _ descents on Saturday afternoon. Owing to the clouds “ Scotty ” Fraser made descents from low altitudes, the spectators taking positions on vantage points on the low hills in the vicinity of the new aerodrome at Totara. Jumping from the aeroplane piloted by Captain Park, “ Scotty ” Fraser made his first jump at 20 minutes to 4 from a height of 600 feet. It was a delayed drop, the parachutist delaying pulling the cord to open the parachute for a few seconds, and the descent was accomplished in a very short time, a safe landing being made. The second descent was from about 800 feet, “ Scotty ” Fraser on this occasion opening the parachute more rapidly and descending more slowly into the centre of the 'field. Fraser demonstrated- the folding of the parachute to the spectators, explaining the methods used in parachute descents, and during the -afternoon, a number of passengers was taken for flights by Captain Park.
