(From Our Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, December 24. FARM SALES. Several l.i.p. farms at Paretai are in the market for sale at the present time. One, that of Mr R. W. Dickson, which carries with it the carting contract for the dairy factory, was sold to Mr Crawford. of Dunedin, at a satisfactory price. Mr Dickson is still a resident’of the district, and is uncertain as to his future movements. While at Paretai Mr Dickson and his father took a live interest in the South. Otago Coursing Club, and ran successfully several good dogs. PERSONAL. Mr E. B. Lothian, town clerk, left today for his annual holiday, to be spent in the Waimate and Timaru districts. Captain W. B. Stone, of the Salvation Army, who has been stationed at Balclutha for the past three and a-quarter years, has received notice of his transfer, which will be effective early in the New Year. During his stay here Captain Stone has proved himself to be a very energetic officer, and, in addition, has filled the position of secretary to the local Unemployment Committee with credit to himself and all concerned. He and Mrs Stone will carry with them the good wishes of a wide circle in town and district. Mr Lionel Graham, who has been a prominent figure in sporting and musical circles during his four years’ stay in Balclutlia, has received notice of his transfer to Lumsden, where he will have charge of Dalgety and Co.’s agency. During his stay here Mr Graham has done yeoman service, both in the field and off for the Cluthn Football Club, and was also prominent in connection with Caledonian games, while both he and Mrs Graham have given their services freely as vocalists at local and district entertainments. Mr Graham expects to leave on January 5 for his new post. NEW BRIDGE. The contractors for the now bridge (Messrs W. Williamson and Co., of Christchurch) expect to make a start with the work of construction very early in the new year, and to complete well within the contract time of 18 monthsIt is understood that all of the skilled labour and a good part of flie unskilled will lie brought from Christchurch for the job, although a certain number of unskilled local workers will be required.
