COLLISION AT SEA

LYTTELTON TRAWLER DAMAGED BOWS STOVE IN. . PERTH, December 17. (Received Dec. 18, at 6.30 p.m.) The trawler South Sea has arrived from Hull en route to Lyttelton. The chief engineer (Mr .Morris) relates that when leaving Las Palmas, after bunkering, the trawler collided with the 10,000ton steamer Stoncpool, engaged in the South African trade. The trawler’s bows were stove in to the waterline. Captain Dowell transferred his wife to the liner, which also was so badly damaged that she had to be beached. After a desperate struggle, the foredeck being awash, she reached land, nine miles distant. Mrs Dowell says she can claim to have been in two wrecks on one day. The South Sea, after bunkering, will leave Fremantle for Lyttelton direct.
