Burnside, December 14. Fat Cattle. —A heavy yarding, Including only a few pens of heavy bullocks, the bulk of the offering consisting of medium and light-weight cattle, with a fair proportion of prime young bullocks, There was good competition for pens showing quality, but the heavy yarding and lack of outside competition resulted in an easing of from 10s to 15s per head. At the end of the sale even these lower values were unobtainable, and frequent passing resulted. Prime heavy bullocks sold up to £9 7s 6d; medium, £6 10s to £7 10s: light, £5 to £6; prime heavy heifers made up to £5 17s 6d; medium, £4 to £4 15s; light, £3 to £4 ; prime cows made up to £4 7s 6d; medium, £3 to £4; light, £2 to £3. Store Cattle.—A small entry of 124 head was received for to-day’s sale. In sympathy with the decline In the beef section, prices showed an easing tendency. The top price for steers was £3 17s for a line of three-year-old Herefords, while a pen of two-and-a-half-year-old Shorthorn cross steers made £3 15s. Fat Sheep. Two thousand penned. The proportion of heavy wethers and ewes was not over-large, the yarding for the main part comprising medium weight sheep of good quality. The demand was poor from the commencement, and as the sale progressed competition became lifeless and passings were consequently frequent'. Values right throughout the sale showed a drop of Is 6d on ewes and heavy wethers and Is on medium and light weights.
