TOTALISATOR EMPLOYMENT
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I have noticed at the race meetings held here that men in good positions and business men work for the totalisator proprietor. There are numbers of men capable of doing the work that have no other employment and would be glad of a day or two’s work. I have noticed also that an hotelkeeper leaves his business and works in the totalisator. I say, “live and let live.”—l am, etc.. One Man One Jod. Caversham, December 12. [Mr W. F. James, proprietor of the totalisator, states that expert men are required to handle the money at the machine quickly and accurately. He has a regular staff, which he has employed for a number of years, and as a consequence has become thoroughly reliable. — Ed. O.D.T.]
