WANAKA NOTES
(From Ouis Own Correspondent.) ! WAN AKA, December 12. i THE WEATHER. I After a week of unsettled weather with some heavy showers and two light coatings of snow on the tops, to-day: was delightfully fine and calm, with a summer temperature. The barometer is now high after a week of low readings. Shearing and haymaking have been interrupted by the broken weather, but crops and pastures have benefited greatly. CRICKET. A trial match was played at Lowburn * on Saturday between teams representing the north and south ends of the Central Otago Sub-association’s district. The match resulted, in a win for the north end representatives. Later the following were selected to represent the district against Maniototo. on January 7, the match being played on the Pembroke Domain:—C. Collings (captain), G. Wilkie, I, Mackay, and H. Harris (Wanaka), J. Kane (vice-captain, Hawea), F. Partridge, jun., and J. MacDonald (Lowburn), G. Lynch and J. Murchison (Queenstown), A. Galvin (Cardrona), R. Reid (Luggate), W. Ironside (Wanaka) twelfth man. LAWN TENNIS. Wanaka A defeated Cromwell at Pembroke on Saturday by 100 games (11 sets) to 74 games (5 sets). The B team did not finish the match against Hawea owing to rain. 1 ANGLING. Mr Linton Mann, of Pembroke, and Mr Watson, of Dunedin, spent four days during last week fishing at Makarora. Although the weather was extremely bad they succeeded in landing 90 fish. The catch included brown and rainhow v trout up to Gib in weight, and also a fair number of land-locked quinnat.
