WHEAT FOR NEW ZEALAND. THE KAIRANGA’S CONSIGNMENT. SYDNEY, December 13. The first full cargo of wheat from Sydney to New Zealand for a number of years is being loaded on the Kairanga, which will sail for Auckland to-morrow. The shipment totals 4200 tons. Giving evidence before the Royal Commission on Taxation Mr M‘Mahon (State Income Tax Commissioner) disclosed the effect of the depression on the number of taxpayers in New South Wales and the amount of tax assessed. Mr M'Mahon’s figures showed that in 1928 the number of taxpayers was 140,578, and the amount of tax assessed £8,282,401, compared with 81,362 taxpayers and £3,026,890 in 1931.
