SPORTS MEETING

The first track and cycling meeting of the season will be held at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday afternoon, under the auspices of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic and Cycling Association. An attractive programme has been arranged, and most of the local champions will be seen in action, including J. G. Barnes, New Zealand cross-country champion. The half-mile and mile, in particular, should provide glivying races, and an event that has not been held here before is the two mile relay, in which each man will run half a mile. A mile medley relay has also been included, and another attractive event will be the 220 Yards Low Hurdle Race. G. S. Cabot and other well-known walkers will probably be seen in action in the half-mile walk, and the four cycling, events should provide keen competition, especially as riders will be competing on the renovated banked track. A ladies’ 100 yards has been included, and three secondary schools events will also be held, including a 440 yards relay. Entries have been received from the Christian Brothers’ High School, Otago Boys’ High School, Mosgiel District High School, and John M'Glashan College. This is the first track meeting that has been held on the Caledonian Ground for neatly two years, and as the tracks are reported to be in good order some fast and interesting racing should be witnessed.
