VANDALISM IN PORT CHALMERS

TO THE EDITOR.

SlK r —l read with interest the report of the meeting of the Port Chalmers Council on Monday night, and I was amazed to learn that a body of men who are representing the citizens would dare to authorise the wholesale slaughter of the firs and other trees surrounding our reserves. It such a thing is allowed to eventuate; I think it is the duty of the Mayor to call a public meeting and that those responsible should be asked to resign, as I am convinced that they are not worthy to represent the ratepayers on the council. It seems that Mr Anderson gets on his feet and proposes motions without thinking of the consequences, and the other councillors follow him like lambs, t Trusting that some abler pen than mine will take this matter up and that the citizens of Port Chalmers will not stand for this murderous attack on our landscape.—

I am, etc., Be Sensible, Port Chalmers, October 11.
