FOUND HANGED
PASSENGER ON MAUNGANUI A NATIVE OF SCOTLAND. SYDNEY, October 11. During the voyage of the Maunganui from Wellington Colin Maxtone, a second class passenger, g native .of ' Scotland, was found hanged. ILL-HEALTH THE CAUSE. s SYDNEY, October 11. (Received Oct. 11, at 11 p.m.) 111-health is believed to be the cause of Maxtone’s suicide on the poop deck of the Maunganui. A silk scarf was round his neck and the end of it was attached to an awning spar. Death was due to strangulation. A bank book with nearly £SOO in credit was among the deceased’s personal effects. Maxtone, who was 32 years of age, was an engineer. He had resided at Lake Coleridge, Christchurch, for six years. A cabin steward, P. Laffy, said lie believed Maxtone tried to commit suicide by hanging on Sunday morning in the cabin. The strap apparently broke, and while making a further attempt he was disturbed. ■; ,
