RETURNED SOLDIERS

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association Executive was held last night. The president (Mr P. S. Anderson) wasj| chairman. The secretary reported that the membership of the association was 1640, and that the membership of the Christchurch Association was 1675.—The chairman said it was the first time the Christchurch Association had secured a lead in the membership this year, but it was hoped that the Dunedin Association would make up the leeway during the next week or two. Thirty new members were nominated and accepted, and one honorary member and one transfer from Auckland were approved., Mr H. E. Sapsford, the association’s official canvasser, appeared before the meeting and reported on his activities during the past two weeks. Mr J. S. Skinner reported that, in company with, the secretary, he had visited the Dunedin Hospital and conversed with the returned soldiers undergoing treatment there. The men were found to be bright and cheerful. The secretary had been asked several questions, and he had ■ answered these to the satisfaction of the men concerned. —Mr Skinner was thanked for his report. The Billiards Committee recommended that the tables in the billiard room be rearranged and that one of them be converted into a match table, thus providing two tables of this type in the room. A movement was afoot to arrange an amateur charity handicap tournament to be open to non-members ag well as members of the association, the proceeds to be devoted to - the Christmas treat .fund.—The report was adopted. Mr Skinner reported that the Museum Committee had given the matter of starting a museum further consideration, and was trying to estimate the cost of the alterations that would be necessary to house the exhibits. He felt confident that there would be no difficulty in obtaining sufficient souvenirs for the museum, and he was sure that the venture would be a great success. A great deal of interest was being taken by civilians and returned soldiers ,in the museum, and he had been assured that a number of trophies secured during the war would be forwarded once the museum was an established fact. The chairman announced that several members of the executive would attend the reunion of returned soldiers to- be held at Lawrence on Saturday night It was decided tffat the president and secretary should visit Warrington on October 18 for the purpose of forming a committee from the returned soldiers located at Warrington, Karitane, Waitati, and Seacliff.
