ERECTION OF NEW BUILDINGS ' GOOD PROSPECTS FOR COCOA CROP. (Per United Press Association.) 1 WELLINGTON, October 11. The Samoan correspondent of the Press Association, writing from Apia on October 3, states that Leauva’s. new Romnn Catholic Church was officially opened by Bishop Darnard on Thursday, September - 29. The celebrations continued until Saturday, there being a distribution of food on Friday and the time filled in with dancing and contest singing by the various visiting villages. The prospects for a good cocoa harveit commencing in November and continuing until March are good. The weather lately has-been ideal, with just the rightquantity of rain. The European copra markets show a slight improvement,. but no increase in price has yet been made to the native growers. Three steamers are due this month, two to load for United Kingdom^. and Continental ports and one’ for' Ameri-' can ports. Approximately 4SOO tons of cargo will be shipped. Five candidates are reported to be seeking Legislative Clouncil honours. They are Mr S. H. Meredith, the sitting member, Mr I. H. Carruthers, a merchant . and planter, Mr J. G. Miedecke. a planter, Mr A. G. Smyl:h, manager of Messrs Morris, Hedstrom, Ltd., and Mr A. C. Gardiner, formerly a cocoa planter.
