T Failing health has compelled Mr Janies Young, curator of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens for the past 25 years, to tender his resignation to the Domains Board, and at a meeting of the board last week the resignation was accepted with regret. It was decided that Mr Young should remain in office until his successor assumes control. On the appointment of his successor Mr Young will become sports superintendent under the board. Honour to Mr W. J. Penn was paid by printers and pressmen from all parts ot Taranaki at a reunion, when they made a presentation of an illuminated address signed by the editors of all the Tai anakj newspapers, and also a silver-mounted walking stick. Mr Penn, owing to illhealth, has relinquished the position ot editor of the Taranaki Herald_ after haying been associated with the journal tor 47 years. . , . .. . A Press Association message states tnat a farewell social and dance tendered to Mr T. W. M'Donald, ex-M.P. for Wairarapa, and Mrs M'Donald, at Carterton, on Monday night, was very largely attended,, people of every shade of political colour being present from all parts of the electorate. The Mayor of Carterton (Mr W. Fisher) presided, and expressed regret at the departure of the guest of the evening. The Mayor of Featherston (Mr JW. Card) presented Mr M'Donald with a substantial cheque. Mr M'Donald, in reply, stated that, though he was going to Wellington to resume business, lie was prepared to contest the Wairarapa seat next election, if invited. A high tribute was paid to Mr M'Donald’s good work for the district.
