UNEMPLOYMENT

PROVISIONS FOR RELIEF GROUPS TO REPORT The following groups will report for work as under at 8 a.m. to-day.:— D.C.C.’ Works Department:—s33, Wharf street, at French street; 533 a, Wharf street, at French street. MACANDREW BAY CONCERT On Thursday last the Bluebird Concert Party gave a concert at Macandrew Bay in aid of the Unemployment Committee. Unfortunately there was an important meeting of the Women’s Institute the same evening, yet the attendance at the concert was very good. The following programme was presented:—Sketch, “ The Lighthouse,’’ the Bluebirds; piano solos, “ The Blue-eyed Blonde ” and “He Played His Ukulele,” Mr Sheddan Turner; vocal solos, “ Sons of Bonnie Scotland,” “ Mother Machreo ” and “ Grannie’s Heilau’ Hame,” Mr George Kerr; vocal solos, “ Come to the Fair," “ Killarney ” and “ The Old Lock,” Mr D. White: Highland dance, scan trub hais, Misses Audrey Ramsay and Irene Jones; instrumental duets, “ Springtime in the Rockies,” “ Drifting and Dreaming," “ Jennie Lee ” and “ My Blue Ridge Mountain Home,” Mrs F. Jones and Mr J. T. Ramsay; vocal solos, “In an Old fashioned Town,” “ Invitation ” and “ Home, Little Maori, Home,” Miss 1. Reekie; vocal solos, “Queen of the Earth,” “ To-morrow,” “ Bells of the Sea” and “The Gay Highway," Mr W. H. Smith; vocal solo, “The Wee House ’Mang the Heather,” Miss Audrey Ramsay ; recitations, “ Oh! ’Er,” and “ Listenin’ in,” Miss B. M'Cartney; vocal duet, “ Huntingtower,” Miss M’Cartnoy and Mr A. E. Ramsay. An Irish jig was also danced by Miss Audrey Ramsay. The programme was received with enthusiasm, all the performers having to respond to insistent encores. The accompaniments were in the hands of Miss M. Renwick and Mr B. King (piano) and Mr J. Johansen (Spanish guitar). A very hearty vote of thanks to the Bluebird Party was carried by acclamation. Before returning to town the party was entertained at supper. . • No. 2 DEPOT The committee of the No. 2 Depot acknowledges receipt of donations from the following Mrs Barningham, Mrs Theomin, Knox Church Deacons’ Court, Miss Mackerras, Mrs Sinclair, Lady Fenwick, Mrs Halstead, Mrs Holley, Mrs Fitchett, parishioner St. Paul’s, J. R. M'Kenzic, Ltd., Knox Church and Church of Christ Guilds. From October 21 the clothing branch of the depot will be open on Friday mornings from 10.30 to 12,30 Orders for wood and coal will be taken on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10.30 to 12.30, and orders for new clothing on Monday and Wednesday mornings and on Tuesdays and Fridays fotv the whole day. The social club is held in Stuart Hall on Saturday evenings'at 7.30. All relief workers are cordially invited. Hairdressers and shoe menders are kept busy at the meetings and an enjoyable programme of music is provided. BUCKET UNE DEPOT The Board of Management of the Blacket Lane Depot, in acknowledging with thanks the following donations, wishes it to bo understood that Mr B, W. Braithwaite has no further connection with the depot. It has to report a quickened interest on the part of the general public in its work. There are just on 300 members, most of whom aro heads of families, now receiving assistance from this depot. The staff is an entirely voluntary one, and its service, combined with the bright and hygienic conditions of the premises, has been favourably commented on by visitors: —Harraway and Sons, 2001 b oatmeal ; Crown Milling Company, 1001 b flour; Silver Fern Taxis, one bag sugar; W.
