There is little wind. CHRISTCHURCH, October 10. The weather to-day was dull, but warm, and the wind was variable. At 6 p.m. a slant to the south-west brought rain which continued but lightly. The maximum temperature wan 65 degrees. The barometer fell to 29.36 in. and then commenced to rise. A steady south-west rain set in to-night and is falling all over North Canterbury. The spring has been a remarkably good season, but the subsoil lacked moisture after the dry winter, and there were fears that continued dry weather might quickly dry up the good pasture and cereal growth. The rain will be very welcome to farmers, as it will ensure a continuance of good feed.
