ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL
STEVEN CUP The inauguration of an annual fixture between the country clubs affiliated with the Otago Football Association took place on Saturday at Mosgiel, when the local team and Seacliff played for the Steven Cup, presented by Sir A. Steven, of Mosgiel. The match was played on Queen’s Park, which was in- good order, and a large number of spectators witnessed hard and. fast football. Both sides displayed good team work, with neither set of forwards making much impression against the defence. The first half was evenly contested, and there was no score at the interval. Mosgiel opened the scoring in the second spell, Whyte .netting, and shortly after Hooper equalised. _ In the extra time played both sides again scored once each, leaving the contestants joint holders for the season. The result was a fair'indication of the play. Mr J. Morwood was referee.
