UNITED CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. In the final of the United Club's championship on Saturday 6. A. Pearce beat S. G. M'Dougall, 4—6, 2—6, 6—3. 6—2, 6—3. _____ ANDERSON'S v BAY CLUB The twenty-eighth annual meeting of the Anderson's Bay Lawn Tennis Ciub was held in the Anderson's Bay Bowling Club pavilion recently. The president (Mr A. E\ M'Adam) was in the chair. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the president expressed satisfaction with the club's financial position, He also congratulated the A Grade team on winning the A competition, and Mr G. A. Pearce on his performances during the past season. Mr Pearce had won the "Men's Open Singles Championship at the New Year tournament, md held with Miss F. White the M'Millan Cup for the Otago Mixed Doubles Championship. He was also winner of the men's champion of champions competition. A vote of thanks by acclamation was carried to the retiring secretary (Mr J. A. Pearce) for his services in the past years, ana it was decided to place on record the club's appreciation of his efforts during his term of office. The report and balance sheet were adopted. Shepherd; Ladder Committee, the General Committee; delegates to the Otago Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs G. A. Pearce and H. S. Ross; Selection Committee, Miss Read and Mr H. 8. Roes. It was decided to-enter A, B, and O teams in the grade competitions. The opening day was fixed for September 10. ST. CLAIR CLOB The president (Mr J. W. Thomson) pre' sided over ah enthusiastic gathering of some 50 members at the fourteenth annual meeting of the St. Clair Lawn Tennis Club (Inc.). ' . . , . The chairman congratulated the executive on being able, to present to the members such a good report and balance sheet. The new courts, he said, had proved a distinct success, and, With the top-dressing that was given them at the end of last season, they should not need a large amount, of money speht on them for a year or two. He was very pleased to see that the committee had decided to reduce its liability to the debenture holders by balloting for the repayment of four debentures. It said much for tlv club that, though it had spent over £IOOO on providing these courts, the amount owing was under £4OO. . C. Fowler, and A. Kingston; delegates to the Otago Lawn Tennis Association--Messrs W, J. M'lnnes, E. G. Ruhen, and F.J.Green. A discussion took place regarding the teams to be entered in the competitions. It was eventually decided to enter four teams, it being left to the committee to determine in which grades to place them. Saturday, September 17, was the date decided on for the opening. • Fifteen resignations were accepted with regret, whilst 30 new members were elected, this latter number filling all available vacancies on the.roll. The president of the Otago LaWn Tennis Association (Mr R. Phillips), in presenting the shield won by the clubs No. 1 CI Grade team, congratulated the executive \ on. the report and balance sheet presented to' the. meeting. Healso stated that the.St. Clair Club.was the largest club under the jurisdiction of the Otago Lawn Tenhis Association. He had much pleasure in asking Mr E. J. Green to accept the shield on behalf of the team. ST. KILDA CLUB The ahnual meeting of the St. Kilda Lawn Tennis Club was held in the pavilion last night. The president (Mr J. J. MaVIOW) was in the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, Mr Marlow stated that the club was in a sound financial position. He referred to the fact that the club's teams had acquitted themselves with credit in the association's competitions, and congratulated Miss Barton and Rawlinson on their successes at the Easter tournament. He also congratulated Mis* Barton and Messrs Deaker and Pollock on the fact that they had brought honoui to the club by securing inclusion in the Otago representative team. — (Applause.) J. Tregear, On the motion of Mr Satterthwaite it was decided to make a reduction in the rates of subscription. The opening day was fixed for Septem ber 17. ' , , , A recommendation was forwarded to the ihcoming committee that a junior section of the club should be formed. DOMINION ASSOCIATION THE NEXT CHAMPIONSHIPS. Forty delegates representing the '2O affiliated associations, attended the annual meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, which waß held in Wellington on Friday evening. Mr A. G. Henderson, one of the honorary life members, presided. The final quarterly report of the old Alahagement Committee stated that the location and dates for the 1932 New Zealand championships and the final matches in the Anthony Wilding Shield and Kathleen Nnnneley Casket competitions had not been decided yet. The committee had approached the Wellington Association in the matter, but it was desirable that certain difficulties should be overcome before definite commitments and arrangements were entered upon. A delegate asked when it was though! a decision would be come to in regard to the championships. Mr Henderson said that the new Management Committee would have to make the matter one of the first items for consideration. "So far we have been unable to arrange suitable terms with the Wellington Association," he added, "but I take it the matter ought to be fixed up within a fortnight." A BALL QUESTION. Discussion took place in committee concerning a section of the Management Committee's report in regard to a decision to adopt a certain make of ball for the 193233 championships and for all matches and tournaments conducted by the association. A file of correspondence was read, and one particular letter was referred to the Management Committee. At a later stage, when consideration was being given to the annual report, the secretary (Mr D. M. Kean) said he was certain the particular make of ball would be used in all tournaments conducted by the association. The report disclosed that since the close of last year on June 30 receipts, including £1 18s 9d on account of subscriptions for the ensuing year, had totalled £sl 10s and payments £32 4s 4d. Amounts outstanding totalled £lll 8s 2d. With the exception of the clause deal-

ing with the ball question, the Managemen Committee's report was adopted. NEW SOUTH WALES LADIES' TEAM.

Moving the adoption of the annual report, Mr Henderson paid high tribute to the New South Wales Ladies team, which visited New Zealand last season, and, in particular, to the performance of Miss J. Hartigan, oue of the members of the team, who won the Ladies' Singles at the New Zealand championship tournament in Auckland in January. Mr Henderson expressed _the hope that Miss Hartigali would visit New Zealand again in the coming season and defend her title. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. Mr H. I. Graves (Otago), discussing school tennis, suggested that it might be advisable for the local associations to try and see if they could assist the New Zealand Association to obtain a little more assistance for tennis in the secondary schools. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

Austin; representative on the Lawn Tennis Association (London) and in the International Lawn Tennis Federation, Mr F. H. Woodward, M.B.E. There was opposition, particularly from the country associations, to the recommendation of the Management Committee that the annual subscription of associations, includihg the one penny per capita levy to be allocated for junior tennis, should ibe fixed at 4d for every active member of the associations. An amendment, .fixing the annual subscription at 3d, Was carried. On the recommendation of Mr G. N. Goldie, it Was decided to ask the Management Committee to consider the question of providing badges similar to the present championship badges to ex-champions who ■are ineligible under the present regulations for them.
