HARRIERS

CARGILL ROAD. The Cargill Road Methodist Harriers held their run from Ravelston street, Tainui. The pack, under the whistles of F. Harmon and P. Wellington, proceeded 'along the high road and then cross country for some miles down the Peninsula, returning along the low road. From Waverley the pack was sent off on the run home, a good pace being maintained. Nearing home P. Wellington, R. and A. Barclay went into the lead, P. Wellington winning by two yards from R. and A. Barclay, who were second (equal), Thompson, Wallace and Lysaght being 100 yards back. ST. PATRICK'S. The run from St. Patrick's schoolroom was well attended, and provided an enjoyable outing for all. The pack proceeded at a fair pace down Fingall and High streets to the Lawyer's Head road, thence on to Tomahawk. Here a relay race was held between teams picked by Captain J. Daly and Acting Deputycaptain H. W. M'Donnell, a good race resulting in a dead heat. , The pack then turned towards home, and at St. Kilda Beach another relay race was held, Daly, Lovelock, Hogan, and Henderson being the winning team. After leaving the beach the pack proceeded back to the school by a route similar to that followed on the way out. MORNINGTON.; A good muster of Mornington harriers turned out from the George Street School under the whistle of Captain Saunders. A trail was followed from the ■, school along the main road as far as the Wopdnaugh Gardens, across the creek and up the hill till the Pine Hill road was reached. This was followed past the school, and the pack then cut across country as far as the Leith Valley, where naif a dozen of the more energetic members set out for a long run home. G. Miller was first home, closely followed by L. Rackley and R. Martin'. . HANOVER BAPTISTS. Prior to the run. on Saturday, the Hanover Baptists Club photograph was taken. A smaller attendance than last week was recorded in the run from the Mornington Baptist Church. . However, the cross-country work appealed to every runner. The two packs made a brisk run down the Mill, road, and traversed the country below. Mount Grand,' making towards the southern reservoir. This was circled, and later the members turned homeward along the Kaikorai Valley road. In spite of the hilly nature of the entire run, everyone acquitted himself well; particularly those who will compete in next Saturday's race and who should be able to complete the whole 14 miles. speed that some of the sprinters produced in both, of the runs home was remarkable. After a short distance across country the track leading towards Flagstaff was followed for a short distance. The going here was very :steep, and quite a mile had, to be walked. Returning by a track on tho southern side of Flagstaff, however,, the pace was-quite good till Taieri road was reached. After a short spell a run home of about 1000 yards was held, F. Stanton, coming first, with R. Tait second. Others prominent at the finish were A. Gillies, W. Pyott, and W. Miller. ARBOTSFORD METHODISTS. The Harriers ran from the Abbotsford Church. It: was decided to have a paper chase, and the hares (J. M'Skimming and G. Gare) set off, followed 20 minutes later by a fair muster r of members. W. Jordan, G. Sadler, and H. Ryan went to the front, and on going on to the water race were joined by D. Fincham, with R. .Chalmers, J. Napier and M. Wateon not far behind. Sadler and Fincham opened up a gap on Jordan and Ryan, and going round behind Mount Grand still had a good lead. Over the hills, however, the trail was' rather scanty, and the four runners were together at Mackie's. Going over the flats towards the railway line, Sadler and Fincham again drew away, and in the run along the line Sadler finished 100 yards ahead of Fincham, with Ryan the same, distance away third. „' , ST.
