OWAKA RETURNED SOLDIERS

ANNUAL REPORT The annual report of the Owaka branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, which was presented at the annual meeting last Saturday, states, inter alia:— As in previous years, the committee assisted in furthering the claims of those in need of assistance, and was instrumental with the assistance Of the parent association in obtaining increased pensions, and assistance from the patriotic societies. During the year the branch disbursed from the Unemployment Fund £6 18s in direct grants, and £9 19s as “subsidies on wages. It endeavoured where possible to avoid direct grants, and this policy resulted in a further £2O being distributed as wages by the public; so that returned men in the district have benefited to the extent of nearly £4O. The Anzac Day parade was again well attended. The R.S.A. funds benefited to tte extent of £29 14s by the collection and sale of poppies and school badges. This was £5 3s more, than the previous year, and was very .gratifying under present conditions. The membership of the association now stands at 54, an increase of . nine since last year.
