RELIEF WORKERS The Port Chalmers Unemployment Committee has decided to assist relief workers to carry out gardening, and regulations stipulate that workers who do not undertake gardening must stand down. The waterside workers have had a very lean period of late, and it has been suggested that the Unemployment Committee should make application to the Unemployment Board for a special grant in order to relieve necessitous cases.
PRESBYTERIAN ORGANISATIONS
On Wednesday evening the Rev. J. W. M'Kcnzie presided over a meeting of the members of the different organisations connected with the Presbyterian Church at Port Chalmers. There was a large attendance of representatives from the P.W.M.U., Girls’ Auxiliary, Bible classes, and Sunday school. The meeting was the outcome of a movement by the P.W.M.U. to bring before the church workers the necessity of a combined effort to extend missionary and other ' works. Various points were discussed for the welfare of the church as a whole.
