SHIPPING DISPUTE
TROUBLE ON THE JOHN CREW TO BE PAID OFF AT WEI* LINGTON. (Per United Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, July «. The crew of the Holm Company's vessel John, which left New Plymouth to-night, will be paid off to-morrdw night at Wellington, and the vessel will be laid-up indefinitely. ~ ~ - The owners have- been negotiating for some time with the Seamen’s Union, but have been unable to reach an agreement. It is understood that the trouble was due origiuallv to the refusal of a fireman to follow the master’s instructions as to the hours of work. The New Plymouth agents received an intimation from Wellington to-day that the crew would be paid off. . . . The fear in expressed in some quar.cn that the trouble may spread.
