CRICKET
ENGLAND’S TEST TEAM « - - AUSTRALIA-NEW,ZEALAND TOUR. v . The fact that arrangements have been made for England’s cricket test team to visit New Zealand after its engagements in Australia next season supplied further proof of the desire on the part of the M.C.C. to assist , in the rise of another cricket nation. It also gives added weight to the reports of the fine.impression created by the last New Zealand team to visit England. There will now be an even greater New Zealand interest in this year’s cricket in England, especially in the doings of players likely to be considered for the team to visit Australia and New Zealand. , ' Already there is much discussion in England as to the make-up of the team for the big tour, and.it is particularly interesting to learn that Mr P. F, Warner, one of England’s selectors, has expressed definite views regarding the claims of some players. In a recent interview Mr Warner expressed the opinion that England would have a good team for the tour. It was obvious that Jardine, of Surrey, would be the captain, and that Sutcliffe, Duleepsinhji, and Hammond were certainties as Ifatsmen, as were Voce and Peebles as bowlers. Ames would be the first, choice as wicketkeeper. , It was thought that Woolley, despite- his age, must go to counteract Grimmett. The next left-hander would be Leyland. England was looking for a young opening batsmen to partner Sutcliffe, so that Jardine would be number five. Mr Warner spoke of Bowes and Allen as possible bowlers, but he did not mention Larwood.
