PALMERSTON NOTES

(From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, March 22.

The annual meeting of the Palmerston Football Club was held in the supper room of the Town Hall on Monday evening before a good attendance of members, Mr A. M'Gregor presiding. Commenting on the annual report Mr Murray said that the club had had an outstanding season last year. The First Grade team, playing in the banner competition, had not lost one match. The club wished to congratulate Shag Point on defeating Palmerston for the Challenge Shield, this being the only defeat the Palmerston Club had suffered for the whole season. The success of the team was mainly due to the keen interest taken by Mr R. Stewart, the ex-All Black. Mr Stewart had done much to improve football in the district, and it was to be hoped that he would be to the fore again this season. The juniors had not done so well as in the previous year, but the starting of the High School team had drawn some of their best players, thus weakening the junior team considerably. With the exception of the exhibitions given by Mr Olsen, the work of the referees of the Second Grade .matches had .been very weak, and if the play of the juniors was to be improved something would have to be done. Mr Lang and Mr Parkhill were congratulated on being selected for the country team, which played a town team in Dunedin. The balance sheet showed the club to be on a satisfactory financial footing.- The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr E. H. Clark, M.L.C.; president, Mr A. M‘Gregor; vice-presidents—Messrs W. M‘Kerrow, George Ross, W. Hopkins,..■and David Ross; secretary and treasurer, Mr N. D. Murray; auditor, Mr W. Galloway; delegates to the sub-union, Messrs C. M. Olsen and John Gordon; club captain, Mr R. Stewart; Committee —Messrs D. M. Thomson, I. Lang,' P. O’Reilly, W. Quinn, J. Logie, and R. Kilgour; sole selector, Mr John Gordon; coach, Mr R. Stewart; custodian, Mr A. Cameron; hononary surgeon, Dr Howden.

April-9 was decided upon as the opening day, when a match would be played against Athletic (Oamaru) at Palmerston.
