Mr J. A. Jenkins has returned to Dunedin from the Medical Congress in AuckMr J. Waters, •who has -been absent on Pharmacy Board business for a few weeks, has returned to Dunedin. Messrs W. Stevenson, D. T. Fleming, and J. A. Hanan, M.L.C.’s, were passengers by yesterday’s express for the north, en route to Wellington. Dr W. D. Bathgate, who has been on furlough in Dunedin, was a passenger byyesterday’s express for the north. He is returning to the Mission Hospital at Nazareth (Palestine). ~ Mr Herbert Price, of Messrs Donald Reid and Co., Ltd., has been elected a director of the Standard Insurance Company to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his brother, Mr Ernest Price. Mr W. L. M'Evoy, of the Hillside Railway Workshops, left Dunedin by yesterday’s express for the north. He will take up a position as works’ manager ot the Eastown (Wanganui) Railway Workshops. Mr M'Evoy was a resident ot Macandrew Bay and treasurer of the North-East Harbour Boating Club. Mr S. K. ’Sleigh, formerly manager of the Union Steam Ship Company s Dunedin branch, was a passenger by yesterday's express for the north. A number of friends and also shipping company representatives were in attendance at the Railway Station to wish him a Peasant voyage. Mr Sleigh will Welhngt n by the motor ship Rangitiki to-morrow on a visit to England. The members of the Otago representative eight-oar rowing crew—Messrs i. Brough, J. D. Solomon, Clark, G. B, Johnson, L. R. Fountain, D, Mathiesoii, C. Neilson, H. L. Pritchard, and R. Underwood (coxswain)— left Dunedin by yesterday’s express for Christchurch. The crew was accompanied by Mr T. P. Mackie (president of the Otago Rowing Association) as manager, and Mr R. Thomson, a former coach. The party will proceed to Picton from Christchurch by service car, and will return to Dunedin next Monday evening. Reference was made by the president (Mr W. F. Forrester) at last nights meeting of the Dunedin • Returned Soldiers Association to the death of Colonel J. A. P. Fredric, who, he said, had been president of the association’s rifle club since its inception, and who had always taken a great interest in it. He had also been well known as an active volunteer and a strong supporters of the territorial movement. A motion of condolence was carried in the customary manner. After completing 35 years service with the Railways Department, Mr I. JGraham, works manager at the Hillside Workshops, will retire on superannuation at the end of the present month. Mr Graham joined the department as an apprentice fitter at Hillside an April, 1897, and on the completion of Ms indentures he remained as fitter until July, Ul“t when he was promoted to the position ot leading fitter at Auckland, .later being transferred to Petone in a similar capacity. In April, 1915, lie returned to Hillside, and in September, 1921, he was promoted to the position of works toreman there, promotion to general foreman following in June, 1925. Eighteen months later he was appointed works manager at Hillside, and during his occupancy ot tins position the difficult task of reorganising the workshops in accordance with the recommendations of the Fay-Raven Commission had to be undertaken. Despite the magnitude of the task, the reorganisation was carried out without a hitch, and the usual work of the shops proceeded smoothly without in any way interfering with the rebuilding operations or the changes over of staffs from the various departments. Mr J. M. Slowley, at present machine shop foreman at Hillside, will succeed Mr Graham. . , , The Otago Harbour Board received advice from the secretary of the Marine Department at its meeting last night that the Governor-General had appointed Mr Robert Duncan to fill the vacancy on the board caused by the resignation of Air J. H. Duncan.
