SALARY AND WAGE CUTS
PETITIONS' TO PARLIAMENT NO FURTHER REDUCTIONS SOUGHT. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, March 22. Petitions signed by business men and others from all parts of the Dominion praying that no further wage cuts bo imposed by Parliament have been presented by members during the past two or three days. Those presented to-day represented 2382 signatories, the great majority of them bearing Christchurch names and being handed in by Mr B. J. Howard (Christchurch South). The petitioners word their prayer to Parliament as follows: — With due recognition of the unprecedented financial position of the Dominion, we submit that the promotion and the preservation of its prosperity and the prevention of further individual financial embarrassment, hardship, and an extension of unemployment render it essential that no fuithei reductions in salaries or wages be made. ‘\s there arc no select committees _of the House during the Emergency Session these petitions were referred direct to the Government.
