CRICKET AND LAWN TENNIS The annual cricket and lawn tennis matches between teams from the Tokomairiro and Mosgiel District High Schools took place at Milton on Friday, when a very enjoyable programme was carried out in ideal weather conditions, Tokomairiro defeated Mosgiel at lawn tennis bv 5 sets (46 games) to 4 sets (42 games), while in the cricket Mosgiel proved victorious by an innings and 24 runs. The games, which were keenly contested, were played under excellent weather conditions, and resulted in a win for Palmerston in the lawn tennis by 14 sets (109 games) to 5 sets (58 games). In the cricket match Palmerston batted first and compiled 28 runs, Mosgiel then batted, and declared when five wickets hafi fallen for 185 runs. Of these G. M'Fadzien ran up 91 before being caught within easy sight of his century. The teams were entertained by the Mosgiel pupils at lunch and afternoon tea, which function concluded a very enjoyable day.
