THE CENTRAL MISSION DEPOT
TO THE EDITOR, Sir, —In reply to Mr E. J. Bruce and his unwarranted attack on the Rev. L. B. Neale, and also in reply to the recent statement by our Mayor (Mr Black). I have, as a wife of a relief worker, to endorse every word of the letter by “ Mrs S.” appearing in this morning’s issue, and also to add that if all the ministers in Dunedin put as much practical Christianity into their work as our respected Mr Neale does, they would have no reason to complain of empty churches, as witness his services every Sunday evening. The young people of Dunedin are very fortunate in having such a man to preach the doctrines of true Christianity to them, and no doubt the seed sown by him will bear rich fruit in the years to come. T for one have to thank him for deep spiritual help, and to meet him and have a chat with him is a real tonic in this terrible
time of struggle for existence. Regarding his purchase of boots at Christchurch, Mr Neale is a far-thinking man and, no doubt, like the wives of the relief workers, he has to go where he can get the best value for the money. Anyhow, what does it matter as long as they were bought in New Zealand and the poor workers get a pair of boots to keep their feet dry? When the Master was on this earth His definition of Christianity was: "I was hungry and you fed me; sick and you visited me; naked and ye clothed me; in prison and ye visited me.” Mr Neale has done, and is still doing, all these things. —I am, etc., Mrs D. South road. March 18.
